Baba Jacquet
Baba Jacquet is a bakery, breakfast and lunch bar in the city center of Ghent. The bakery existed before, but Meryem gave her parents' bakery a hip look after 30 years. Now, it’s a bakery ànd bar serving pastries, coffee, sandwiches, and everything in between. Everything they serve from bread to brunch dishes is fresh and homemade. You can even see the baker making the bread himself, which is super fun. All cakes, pastries and lunch dishes change with the season. Their specialties such as the ‘Genste Bolus’ and the ‘bokkepootjes’ will of course remain on the menu. The interior and branding of Baba Jacquet is SO COOL. Meryem is actually an interior architect and drew and designed everything herself. She even made some pieces on her own. Their branding refers to the sun, and the drawing on their t-shirt is actually of their dad who passed away. ‘Baba’ refers to ‘BAr & BAkery’, but it also means ‘dad’ in Turkish (Meryem’s dad was Turkish). I really like how they have processed everything down to the last detail. Full of love and passion. PS: they also have a colorful sunny terrace and are open all weekend! They are only closed on Tuesdays. Prices for breakfast dishes are between €6,9 and €7,9. Prices for lunch dishes are between €8,9 and €17,3. Prices for brunch dishes are between €6,9 and €14,5 (with an outlier of €29,9 for the brunch menu). Prices for hot drinks are between €2,5 and €6,2. Prices for cold drinks are between €3,9 and €5,9. Prices for apero drinks are between €6,3 and €8. Prices for bread are between €4,9 and €5,2. Prices for baguettes are around €2,4. Prices for pastries are between €2,5 and €7,2. • Matcha Yoghurt Bowl• The Salty Sunrise (hot croissant with cheese, prosciutto ham, grated parmesan cheese and black pepper)• The Bread Lovers Plate (thick slice of fresh bread, butter, raspberry jam + extra egg)• Iced matcha latte• Zesty Avo (toast with creamy avocado, pickled onion, dill and lemon)• Sweet Chicken sandwich• Baba latte (milk, turmeric and cinnamon)
